Hoppy Easter!

I had the best of intentions to do this post yesterday, ON easter, but I let the day slip away from me, and spent most of it lazing around watching tv and catching up on my knitting projects (all easter related). Despite all that effort - or so I though I only completed two projects, both which were more than half way done to begin with. Hmmm, so where did the rest of my day go I wonder? I guess every once in a while its nice to have a day to do nothing but laze around. I still have a bunch of easter knitting to do but more on that on Wednesdays Yarn Along.

Brad and I had a quiet Easter, we didnt make plans to drive out to visit his family, they live five hours away and its a bit of  a treck, as you can probably imagine. Easter kind of snuck up on me this year, and I didnt think to make Easter dinner plans (or supper as its refered to here in NL). So instead we had a nice breakfast of homemade waffles followed by too much easter candy - of course.

Easter was never a huge deal growing up, Christmas was the "bigger" holiday. Although I do have fond memories of Easters as a child. Unfortuanatly I didn't believe in the easter bunny for long, I couldn't really wrap my head around a giant bunny delivering eggs; I did however firmly believe in Santa for quite some time, but he is a human after all - and I think thats why my belief in him was so real. My mother made me (well I guess I shouldn't say "made") hunt for easter treats with my younger brothers until I was 18, but at least she didn't make us divide our eggs evenly between each other like she did when we were small (something I always hated to do - finders keepers was my moto). In our family we only ever went to Church on Easter Sunday, I hated it, but there was one part that I looked forward too. Little chocolate eggs would be hidden in the pews, and before the service would start Id run around and steal, I mean gather, as many of those eggs as I could carry before too many people entered, and since I would always be wearing a dress - which coincidently wouldn't have pockets, I would stuff said eggs in my pantyhose for safe keeping. Needless to say, it wasn't long before the eggs would melt and Id be a chocolaty mess.

Yarn Along

Hello fellow Knitters! I'm linking up with Ginny from Small Things again this week. I can't believe another week has passed since the last yarn along. I havn't even touched the bunny I posted about last time. Ive been overly consumed with thrifting and my new knitting project - dish cloths. I hate knitting dish cloths; I've knit a few in the past when I first started knitting, and the novelty wore off for me really quickly.

So why am I knitting dish cloths you ask? Well Im not knitting them for me, Im knitting them for my future Mother In-law, for Easter. I like giving knitted gifts when I can, and I wanted something relativly quick (although they arn't going as quick as I'd like - probably because I hate knitting them, go figure) and simple. Not to mention Brads mother is one of the hardest people ever to shop for - or knit for, for that matter. She does like knitted dish cloths though - so thats what shes going to get :). The original plan was to do four - because I have four balls of cotton yarn (and Im trying to use up my stash instead of buying more yarn - between my knitting habit and my thrifting habit Im running out of space!), but we'll see how I am after the first two are done.

Im using the Naked knitting pattern by: Kelly Brooker, its free from Ravelry. Im probably going to use differnt patterns for the other cloths, I just havn't picked anything out yet. Suggestions are welcome!

Can you tell how thrilled I am about this? Haha.

Yarn Along - The Beginning of A Habit

Today I'm linking up with Ginny from Small Things (a most captivating blog  btw) to participate in her weekly Yarn Along, hopefully the first of many for me. I love to knit, its somthing that I would say I spend 80% of my down time doing, especially on evenings and weekends; although as of late my evenings have been spent trying desperatly to beat Brad in the game "Wacky Blasters", a vintage 1990 (I can't believe the 90's are becoming "vintage"!) board game that involves a plastic mountain, mini pom poms and hollow rubber "Blasters" that are used to blow said pom poms up the mountain. It is much harder than it sounds. The game is recomended for ages 6 and up - had I played this game as a child I likely would have ended up in tears very early on - one of the rules is that if your pom pom blows off the game board (aka mountain) you have to start over. This happens far more often than you'd like to think. Needless to say this game is hilarious - likely the best 2.99 Ive spent in a long time at the thrift store, some games can take us upwards of 30 minutes to play - ONE GAME!

So anyways! Back to what this post is sappoused to be about, knitting and reading! Well currently I have a bunch of knitted stuff on the go, some of it has been sitting there since this past summer - ugh, but the thing thats prsently holding my attention is an adorable little knitted bunny, that I shall be knitting two of and will be givin as easter gifts. The pattern is Genevie the Snow Bunny by Rachel Borello Carroll who runs Yarnigans. Her patterns can be downloaded from her etsy shop and ravely. Im really glad I learned to knit in the round because Id been admiring her creative cuteness for some time, and now I get to finally create it! Im knitting the bunny in Red Heart Eco Ways yarn, colour: mushroom. This little bunny is still missing its legs, which I will hopefully get done this week so I can start in the second bunny.

Im currently reading Little Heathens by: Mildred Armstrong Kalish, which Ive been working on for a couple weeks now, although it seems like much longer. I tend to read for pleasure at night in bed, but most nights Im so tired, and I go to bed relativly early so Im not dog tired at work the next day (I am a nanny to four children - your day goes much better when your not sleep deprived - as Im sure mothers could atest to). So yeah, I dont prioritize my reading, but I really do love books and reading, this book is quite the interesting read, I heard of it through Ginny from Small Things, and after reading a description online bought it used on amazon for some insaely low price of like 3 cents. I never really understood why used book sellers sometimes sell books so cheap.
